Golf in Palacios

Palacios is a small city on Matagorda Bay in Matagorda County on the Texas Gulf Coast, a commercial fishing and shrimping community with a significant Vietnamese-American population that arrived after the Vietnam War and integrated into the Gulf Coast fishing industry. The bay and the Gulf of Mexico offshore provide shrimp, crab, and finfish that sustain the commercial fishing economy. The YMCA Conference Center occupies the site of the former Camp Hulen military installation on the Matagorda Bay shoreline. Matagorda County is one of the less densely populated coastal counties on the Texas coast, with a mix of agriculture, oil and gas, and commercial fishing. The flat, low-elevation coastal prairie terrain with bay access and Gulf breezes characterizes the Palacios area. One course serves this small coastal community in the bay and prairie terrain of Matagorda County.
