Golf in Atwater

Atwater is a city in Merced County in California's Central Valley, northwest of the city of Merced. The former Castle Air Force Base, now redeveloped as Castle Airport and a mixed commercial and industrial area, lies adjacent to the city and remains a factor in the local economy. Merced County occupies the San Joaquin Valley floor east of the Coast Range, and Atwater sits on flat agricultural terrain at low elevation. Castle Commerce Center, on the former airfield, has attracted warehousing, distribution, and other commercial uses. US Highway 99 passes through the Merced corridor to the east, while local roads connect Atwater to the highway network. The city has a modest downtown and functions as part of the Merced metropolitan area. Agricultural land surrounds the city on most sides, with dairies, orchards, and row crops common across Merced County's San Joaquin Valley floor.
