Golf in Avila Beach

Avila Beach is a small coastal community in San Luis Obispo County, at the inner end of San Luis Obispo Bay. The community sits on a flat coastal area at the bottom of a canyon where San Luis Creek meets the Pacific, with steep coastal hills surrounding the bay on three sides. San Luis Obispo County's coast has several distinct communities, and Avila Beach is one of the warmer and more sheltered due to its position within the bay. A pier and small commercial area along the beach front serve visitors who come for the calm bay water and warm summer temperatures. Pacific Gas and Electric operates the Diablo Canyon Power Plant on the coast nearby, providing a significant employment presence in the area. The community is small in population and visitor-oriented in its commercial activity.
