Golf in Buckhorn

Buckhorn is a small community in Calaveras County in the Central Valley foothills, in the low-elevation western portion of the county east of Stockton. The community occupies the transition zone between the flat San Joaquin Valley and the first low ridges of the Sierra Nevada foothills. Calaveras County's western communities are at lower elevation than the mountain communities along State Route 4, and Buckhorn is in this moderate foothill terrain where oak woodland is the dominant vegetation. The community is primarily residential with limited commercial services, with residents typically traveling to Stockton, Lodi, or San Andreas for most needs. San Andreas, the Calaveras County seat, is a short distance to the east on State Route 49. The terrain in this part of the county is low foothill land, with seasonal creeks and oak grassland typical of the San Joaquin foothills at these elevations.
