Golf in Murphys

Murphys is a small town in Calaveras County in the Sierra Nevada foothills, at roughly 2,200 feet elevation east of Angels Camp on State Route 4. The town functions as a commercial and tourism center for the middle Calaveras County foothills, with wine tasting rooms, restaurants, and shops along the main street. Calaveras County is part of the Sierra Nevada foothills wine country, and Murphys serves as a hub for this sector, with numerous wineries in the surrounding area. The terrain around Murphys consists of rounded foothill ridges, seasonal creeks, and a mix of oak woodland and vineyards at the 2,000-foot elevation band. Calaveras Big Trees State Park, home to several stands of giant sequoias, is roughly 16 miles east on State Route 4, and Murphys benefits from visitor traffic heading to the park. The town has a compact main street and a modest permanent residential population.
