Golf in California City

California City is a city in Kern County in the Mojave Desert, northeast of Tehachapi at roughly 2,500 feet elevation. The city was planned in the 1950s and 1960s as a large residential development in the desert, with an extensive street grid laid out across the Mojave, though much of the planned area remains undeveloped. Kern County's desert communities occupy the eastern portion of the county, where the terrain transitions from the southern Sierra foothills to the flat Mojave Desert. California City has a core residential and commercial area much smaller than the platted street network implies. The Mojave Air and Space Port is nearby and provides an aerospace testing facility contributing to the local economy. Edwards Air Force Base is to the east, and the broader high desert economy is connected via State Route 58 and State Route 14.
