Concord is the largest city in Contra Costa County, in the Diablo Valley between the Berkeley Hills and Mount Diablo. The city occupies flat valley terrain at roughly 75 feet elevation, with the Diablo Range visible to the east. Contra Costa County's main commercial and employment center, Concord has a substantial retail, business, and light-industrial base. The city has a BART station connecting it to San Francisco and the broader Bay Area transit network, and Interstate 680 provides freeway access. Downtown Concord around Todos Santos Plaza has a traditional commercial district, and Sunvalley Mall is a regional retail center. The former Concord Naval Weapons Station northeast of the city is subject to an ongoing redevelopment planning process. The city has a diverse and substantial population.
