Desert Hot Springs is a city in Riverside County north of Palm Springs, in the northern Coachella Valley above Interstate 10. The city sits on elevated desert terrain at roughly 1,000 feet elevation, above the main valley floor. Riverside County's geothermal resources are concentrated in the Desert Hot Springs area, where natural hot mineral springs have emerged and formed the basis for spa and resort uses that define the community's character. The city has a mix of spa resorts, retirement communities, and modestly priced residential development. State Route 62 provides access north toward Yucca Valley and Joshua Tree National Park. Interstate 10 is accessible to the south. The city occupies a distinct position on the north side of the Coachella Valley, separate from the main valley communities along the 111 corridor.
