Goleta is a city in Santa Barbara County on the south coast of California, west of Santa Barbara in the coastal valley between the Santa Ynez Mountains and the Pacific. Incorporated in 2002, the city occupies the western portion of the coastal urbanized area that extends from Goleta to Carpinteria. UC Santa Barbara, one of the leading University of California research campuses, sits on a coastal mesa at the northwestern edge of the city and is a major employer. The Santa Barbara Airport is located in Goleta and provides commercial air service to the region. Goleta has a mix of residential neighborhoods, commercial corridors, and the university campus, with agriculture and open space on the edges. The city has a mild coastal climate influenced by the Pacific throughout the year. US Highway 101 provides the main traffic corridor through the city.
