Golf in Grass Valley

Grass Valley is a city in the Nevada County foothills of the Sierra Nevada, at roughly 2,400 feet elevation northeast of Sacramento. The city functions as one of the two main commercial centers of Nevada County, along with adjacent Nevada City. The western Sierra foothills in this area are covered with a mix of conifer and oak woodland, and the terrain is cut by several creeks draining toward the Bear River and Yuba River systems. The local economy includes retail, healthcare, services, and light manufacturing, drawing from a population that includes longtime residents and arrivals from the Bay Area and Sacramento seeking lower housing values. State Route 49 is the main artery connecting Grass Valley to the Mother Lode communities north and south. The city has a compact downtown and serves as the retail hub for a wide surrounding foothill area. Nevada City, immediately to the northeast, shares the commercial load for the county.
