Golf in Alta Sierra

Alta Sierra is a residential community in Nevada County in the Sierra Nevada foothills, in the area between Grass Valley and the higher elevation terrain approaching Lake Tahoe. The community sits at roughly 2,800 feet elevation in a forested canyon zone where the Bear River drainage runs through the western foothills. Nevada County's western Sierra communities occupy a transitional zone between the Sacramento Valley and the higher Sierra elevations. Alta Sierra is primarily residential, with houses interspersed among conifer and oak woodland on terrain that varies through ridges and creek drainages. The community is within commuting distance of Grass Valley and Nevada City, the county's main commercial centers. State Route 49 provides regional connectivity to the south and north. The foothill terrain in this part of Nevada County includes granite outcrops, mixed woodland, and the varied topography typical of the western Sierra at this elevation.
