Beale Air Force Base is a US Air Force installation in Yuba County in the Sacramento Valley, northeast of Marysville. The base serves as home to the 9th Reconnaissance Wing and occupies flat valley terrain at a low elevation. Yuba County spans from the Sacramento Valley floor to the first slopes of the Sierra Nevada foothills, with the base situated in the flatter western section of the county. The surrounding area is predominantly agricultural, with irrigated crops typical of the Sacramento Valley covering much of the land near the base perimeter. The town of Linda and the city of Marysville, the county seat, are the nearest civilian communities. State Route 20 and US Highway 70 connect the area to the regional road network.
