Llano is a small unincorporated community in Los Angeles County in the Antelope Valley, east of Palmdale in the high desert terrain of the northeastern county. The community occupies remote desert terrain at roughly 3,400 feet elevation in the Pearblossom-Llano area east of the main Palmdale-Lancaster metropolitan area. Los Angeles County's eastern Antelope Valley communities, including Llano and Pearblossom, have a rural desert residential character. The community has very limited commercial services and is primarily residential, with residents relying on Palmdale and Victorville for most needs. State Route 138 passes through the area, connecting the Antelope Valley to Wrightwood and the Cajon Pass. The surrounding Mojave Desert terrain at this elevation includes Joshua trees and high desert scrub vegetation.
