Golf in Kapaau

Kapaau is a small town in the North Kohala district at the northern tip of the Big Island, renowned as the birthplace of King Kamehameha I—the ruler who unified the Hawaiian Islands under a single kingdom in the late eighteenth century—where the original Kamehameha statue (the prototype for the more famous Honolulu version) stands in the town center. North Kohala's dramatic landscape—the Pololu Valley lookout, the historic Kohala Mountains, and the agricultural plains of the windward north—gives the district a historical and scenic character that the small populations of the ranching and farming communities have preserved.
