Angel Fire is a mountain resort community in the Moreno Valley of Taos County, developed primarily around the Ski Angel Fire resort and the broader outdoor recreation culture of the Sangre de Cristo Mountains. The village sits at roughly 8,400 feet — one of the highest permanently inhabited communities in New Mexico. Vietnam Veterans Memorial State Park, whose memorial chapel was the first in the country dedicated to Vietnam veterans, gives the community a gravity unusual for a resort town. Two golf courses operate here: Angel Fire Country Club and Valle Escondido Golf Course, both playing at extreme altitude where the ball flight advantage is substantial and the season compressed to late spring through early fall. The Moreno Valley's open meadow character provides a different visual experience than the tighter mountain-town corridors found elsewhere in northern New Mexico.
