Golf in Longview

Longview is the county seat of Gregg County in the East Texas oil country and the largest city in a regional area that includes several East Texas counties. The city has a diverse economy including oil and gas, timber, and manufacturing, and serves as the commercial, medical, and educational center for a multi-county East Texas region spanning from Marshall to the west to Kilgore to the south. The East Texas oil field discovery of the 1930s transformed Longview from a timber and agricultural community into a substantial city with a petroleum-based economy. LeTourneau University and Kilgore College contribute to the educational landscape of the area. The forested pine and hardwood terrain of the Sabine River basin and the oil-country character of Gregg County define the landscape.
