Golf in Overton

Overton is a small city in Rusk County in the East Texas oil country, in the southern Piney Woods at the heart of the East Texas oil fields that were discovered in the 1930s. Rusk County is one of the counties that was transformed by the East Texas oil boom, and the economy retains ties to petroleum alongside the timber and agriculture of the Piney Woods. The Panola College system serves students in this part of East Texas. Overton is approximately 30 miles east of Longview on the US 259 corridor. The pine and hardwood forest of Rusk County and the creek drainages of the Sabine River tributaries provide the natural setting. The community is a small-town rural center in the East Texas agricultural and oil-field landscape. One course serves the Overton community in the forested East Texas terrain of Rusk County.
