Robert Lee is the county seat of Coke County in the Edwards Plateau of west-central Texas, a small ranching community in the upper Colorado River basin. Coke County is a sparsely populated plateau county in the transition between the Hill Country and the Permian Basin, with the E.V. Spence Reservoir on the Colorado River providing a water resource in the otherwise dry limestone terrain. The reservoir has fluctuated significantly with drought conditions, reflecting the arid climate demands of west-central Texas. The community is approximately 65 miles northwest of San Angelo and serves as the only commercial center in Coke County. The limestone plateau terrain of Coke County has mesquite, cedar, and native grasses at roughly 2,200 feet elevation. One course serves this small remote community in the Edwards Plateau terrain of Coke County.
