Golf in Rotan

Rotan is the county seat of Fisher County in the west Texas plains, a small agricultural community in the upper Colorado River drainage between Abilene and Lubbock. Fisher County's economy combines oil production and cotton farming on the flat to gently varied red clay terrain of west-central Texas. The community is on the US 180 corridor between Abilene and Lubbock, in a part of west Texas that is characterized by cotton fields, mesquite, and the occasional oil pump jack. Fisher County's population has declined from its peak decades ago, and Rotan is the sole commercial center for the county. The terrain at roughly 1,900 feet elevation has gently varied red clay terrain typical of the west Texas plains.
