Jamul is a small unincorporated community in San Diego County in the inland mountain area southeast of San Diego, near the US-Mexico border. The community occupies hill terrain in the coastal ranges at roughly 1,900 feet elevation, east of Chula Vista and south of Spring Valley. San Diego County's inland mountain communities in this area have a rural residential character, with large-lot development and limited commercial activity. Jamul is accessible from State Route 94, which runs from San Diego eastward through the rural South County. The surrounding terrain has chaparral and oak woodland on the hillsides, with the Otay Mountain Wilderness area nearby to the south. The Jamul Indian Village of the Kumeyaay Nation is located in the community.
