Golf in Kernville

Kernville is a small town in Kern County on the Kern River at the foot of Isabella Lake in the mountains northeast of Bakersfield. The town sits at roughly 2,650 feet elevation in a steep river canyon where the Kern River runs south from the Sierra crest toward the San Joaquin Valley. Kern County's mountain communities, including Kernville, are in the southern Sierra Nevada where the mountains form the county's eastern boundary. The river provides recreation resources that draw visitors for rafting, fishing, and camping. Kernville serves as the main community in the upper Kern River drainage, with lodging, restaurants, and supply businesses for recreation visitors. State Route 178 connects Kernville to Bakersfield via the Kern River Canyon. Lake Isabella, formed by Isabella Dam, is immediately southeast of Kernville and provides a large reservoir for water storage and recreation.
