Rancho Santa Fe is an unincorporated community in San Diego County north of San Diego in the coastal mountains of the north county, between Solana Beach on the coast and Escondido inland. The community occupies the Santa Fe Valley in the coastal mountains, where avocado orchards, equestrian properties, and exclusive residential development characterize the landscape. San Diego County's affluent north county communities include Rancho Santa Fe as one of the most exclusive, with large-lot development and a private covenant association governing land use. The community has a small village with a post office, some restaurants, and limited retail. Lomas Santa Fe Drive and Via de la Valle connect the community to Interstate 5 and the broader north county road network.
