Golf in Big Lake

1 golf course in Big Lake, Texas.

Big Lake is the county seat of Reagan County in the Permian Basin, one of the small oil-production communities in the vast west Texas oil country. Reagan County is a sparsely populated Permian Basin county where the oil and ranching economy dominates the landscape. The town of Big Lake is known in Texas oil circles as the site of the Santa Rita No. 1 well, the first significant oil discovery in west Texas, which helped fund the University of Texas system through the Permanent University Fund. The flat terrain of the Permian Basin has caliche soils, low mesquite, and grassland at roughly 2,700 feet elevation. The community is remote, with Midland and San Angelo serving as the nearest major urban centers. One course serves this small community.
