Golf in Eldorado

Eldorado is the county seat of Schleicher County in the Edwards Plateau country of west-central Texas, in the sheep and Angora goat ranching country south of the main Hill Country. Schleicher County is one of the remote and sparsely populated counties on the southwestern Edwards Plateau, where the ranch economy and limited water resources define the landscape. The terrain is limestone plateau with mesquite, cedars, and native grasses, at roughly 2,400 feet elevation. Eldorado is approximately 60 miles south of San Angelo, the nearest significant urban center. The community was in the news in 2008 in connection with the Yearning for Zion Ranch, a former compound in the area. One course serves this small ranching community in the dry Edwards Plateau terrain.
