Golf in Galveston

Galveston is the county seat of Galveston County, a barrier island city on the Gulf of Mexico that was once the largest city in Texas before the catastrophic hurricane of 1900 killed thousands and prompted Houston to surpass it as the major Gulf Coast port. The Strand National Landmark District preserves the Victorian commercial buildings from Galveston's nineteenth century peak, and the beach and bay recreation drives a substantial tourism economy. The Port of Galveston handles cruise ship traffic and cargo. Galveston Island State Park provides nature access on the barrier island. The flat coastal terrain of the barrier island, at sea level, is exposed to Gulf breezes and tropical weather systems. One course serves the island community.
