Paducah is the county seat of Cottle County in the northwest Texas plains near the Red River, one of the more sparsely populated counties in Texas. The community is in the open mesquite and native grass country of the northwest plains, where cotton and cattle ranching on the gently varied terrain of the Red River drainage define the local economy. Cottle County borders the Oklahoma state line and is on the southern margins of the Red River country. Paducah is approximately 80 miles north of Abilene and about 60 miles south of the Oklahoma line on US 83. The plains terrain of Cottle County at roughly 1,900 feet elevation has red clay soils and the characteristic landscape of the northwest Texas prairies. The community is small, with Paducah serving as the only commercial center in the county. One course serves the small Paducah community in the open plains terrain of Cottle County.
