Golf in Vernon

Vernon is the county seat of Wilbarger County in the northwest Texas plains near the Red River and Oklahoma border. The community is in the red clay country of the northwest plains, and Wilbarger County is home to the Waggoner Ranch, one of the largest contiguous cattle ranches in the United States, spanning over 500,000 acres across Wilbarger and adjacent counties. The Red River drainage defines the northern boundary of Wilbarger County, and the community is near the Oklahoma border on the US 287 corridor. Wilbarger County has a mix of ranching and some oil production in the gently varied red clay terrain of the northwest Texas plains. Vernon is approximately 55 miles north of Wichita Falls. One course serves the Vernon community in the open plains terrain of Wilbarger County.
