Golf in Lone Pine

Lone Pine is a small town in Inyo County in the Owens Valley at roughly 3,700 feet elevation, on US Highway 395. The town sits near the base of the Sierra Nevada to the west, with the Alabama Hills geological formation immediately west of town and the Inyo Mountains to the east. Inyo County's Owens Valley is a wide, flat corridor with the Sierra to the west and the Inyo Mountains to the east. The Alabama Hills have been used as a filming location for many decades and continue to draw visitors for that reason. The town functions as the primary access point for hikers and climbers heading to the Mount Whitney trailhead to the west, with Whitney reaching 14,505 feet at the Sierra crest. The local economy centers on outdoor recreation, tourism, and services for Highway 395 travelers. Lone Pine has a small downtown with outdoor-oriented businesses and lodging for both overnight visitors and through-travelers.
