Golf in Seaside

Seaside is a city in Monterey County on the northern edge of the Monterey Peninsula, adjacent to the former Fort Ord military reservation. The city developed as a residential and commercial area serving personnel stationed at Fort Ord, a major Army installation until its closure in 1994. The closure significantly affected the local economy, and the city has since worked to broaden its economic base and redevelop portions of the former base. Seaside has the most diverse population of the Monterey Peninsula cities, reflecting its military community roots. The city's commercial center along Broadway and Fremont Street serves the local residential population. California State University Monterey Bay, on the former Fort Ord property adjacent to Seaside, has brought educational and economic activity to the area. Highway 1 provides coastal highway access and connects Seaside to Monterey and the broader peninsula communities.
