Golf in Archer City

Archer City is the county seat of Archer County in north Texas, a small ranching community closely associated with novelist Larry McMurtry, who set several of his works in this community, including the Last Picture Show and the Lonesome Dove series. The old movie theater that inspired McMurtry's writing stands in the small downtown, and the community has a literary tourism identity. Archer County is in the transition zone between the northwest plains and the central Texas Cross Timbers, with cattle ranching and some oil production.
