Truckee is a town in Nevada County in the Sierra Nevada, north of Lake Tahoe at roughly 5,800 feet elevation along Interstate 80. The town serves as the main commercial center for the north Tahoe region and the Truckee River corridor, with a substantial year-round population supplemented by large numbers of visitors during summer and winter seasons. The downtown along Donner Pass Road has restaurants, shops, and services in an older commercial district. Interstate 80 and US Highway 267 provide highway connections to the Bay Area to the west, Lake Tahoe to the south, and Reno to the east. Truckee is at the convergence of several recreation corridors, including ski areas to the south and the river corridor to the east. The town has grown significantly in recent decades as a year-round mountain community.
